A masterful storyteller and an accomplished humorist, he attained worldwide fame through his short stories and novels and his works have been translated into many languages. His greatest literary achievement was of course , his chronicle of Tevye the Dairyman and his seven daughters, the collection of stories that became the basis for the hit Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof.
